Hannah Ní Mhaonaigh

Hannah Ní Mhaonaigh is a Dublin-based, Irish artist. In her practice, Hannah creates work by using oil & acrylic paint on various surfaces including; linen, chipboard, found mahogany door frames, and architectural wooden panels.

This process involves removing, sanding back, and building up layers of paint repeatedly to create abstract artworks that sit somewhere between painting and sculpture. Her playful use of materials enables colour, shape, and texture to be the primary driver of her work. The repetitive practice of overpainting/paring back leads to a playful yet determined energy in her finished pieces. The ones that managed to make it.

Having graduated with a BA in Fine Art Media, from the National College of Arts & Design in 2012. Ní Mhaonaigh was awarded The Henry Higgins Scholarship, RDS, Visual Art Award, and became a permanent studio holder at the prestigious Spike Island Studios, Bristol, England. Where she resided for a number of years, here she experimented in many different mediums, taking part in collaborations, exhibitions and residencies throughout Europe.

Hannah undertook the Artist Residency at Atelier Now in 2021.
