Colm Weakliam

Colm Weakliam is a contemporary Irish artist, born and bred in Dublin. Having explored many aspects of visual art throughout his creative career, Colm has harnessed elements from each discipline to create a unique style of painting that offers a new perspective to viewers.

Colm’s artistic practice is primarily influenced by urban architecture, minimalism, op art and the ‘light and space’ movement. He honours the works of Sol LeWitt, Frank Stella and James Turrell as key influences to his practice.

With his work, Colm explores geometric optical illusion and spatial perspective through the use of colour gradients, layered 3D shapes and altered perspectives. His work treads the ground between two and three dimensions.

In addition to his studio practice, Colm has an established background in painting large scale murals throughout Ireland and abroad. He has exhibited work in many art organisations, including: IMMA, Atelier Now, The Copper House Gallery, MART Gallery, The Back Loft and is currently undertaking the Artist Residency Programme at Atelier Now.

Colm undertook the Artist Residency at Atelier Now, 2021 - 2022.
